A closing night celebration of local artistry and community, featuring the world premiere of “Griot”

The grand finale to our 2026 Festival, Bay Area Shorts is an annual tradition honoring the depth and range of Northern California’s dance film community. This year’s dynamic program moves from the elemental to the surreal — a solo dancer answers the rhythm of crashing waves, a love story is told entirely through animation, office workers mistake a mysterious map for a covert mission, and much more. With choreography from acclaimed artists including Brenda Way (ODC/Dance), Adji Cissoko (LINES Ballet), Natasha Adorlee (concept o4), plus a closing reception, this evening is your chance to celebrate our homegrown talent and send off the festival in style.

Bay Area Shorts includes the world premiere of Griot, a film commissioned by Dance Film SF’s SIGHTLINE initiative. Griot stars LINES Ballet dancer Adji Cissoko with direction by Oakland-based filmmaker Yoram Savion, both of whom will participate in a live Q&A.

All ticket holders are invited to attend a post-screening reception in the lobby to celebrate the end of the 2026 Festival.

Tickets purchased at the door will cost $1 additional per ticket.

Venue Accessibility: Brava Theater is located at 2781 24th Street. Curb cuts for the sidewalk to the Brava Theater Center are located on the corner of York and 24th Street. The entrance of the theater is on the ground floor and there is an elevator to seating in the upper level of the theater.

About the 2026 San Francisco Dance Film Festival: 

The San Francisco Dance Film Festival marks its seventeenth year this fall with over 80 films celebrating dance in all its forms, from world-class ballet to endangered folkloric traditions. Eighteen in-person screenings run October 23 through November 8 at venues across San Francisco, complete with artist Q&As, panels, and community gatherings, followed by an Online Festival from November 9 through 30 featuring short film programs and online-only features. Join SFDFF 2026 for intimate documentaries, dazzling screendance, and thrilling live performance captures that celebrate the ever-evolving intersection of dance and film.
