Bayside Roving Repair Upcycled Festive Season Sewing Workshop
Event description
Please join us for a festive season sewing workshop, as part of Bayside City Council’s innovative Roving Repair Program.
The program aims to empower our community to repair and reuse household items.
Bayside City Council is dedicated to reducing waste within our municipality by encouraging everyone to repair items instead of throwing them away.
Join us with Gail and her team at Hampton's Recycled Sewing Studio. Please note there are two workshops on 3rd December: Workshop 1 is 10am-1pm and workshop 2 is 2pm-5pm. Please select the session you wish to attend. Please notify us if you are no longer to make it, as this event will be in high demand.
Much as we love the holiday season and gift giving, the waste produced is phenomenal. This can include unwanted gifts, as well as unnecessary packaging and gift wrap that gets ripped off goes straight into the bin!
Sustainability Victoria has some advice on sustainable gifts. In addition to those tips we recommend sourcing handmade or second hand gifts.
Over the course of the Roving Repair Program Bayside City council has offered workshops that can help people mend and make use of items that might otherwise have gone to landfill. Throughout the program we’ve repaired treasured books and jewellery, favourite items of clothing that people couldn’t part with, and much more. If you know someone had a treasured item that they wanted mended, what better gift than to breathe new life into it for them?
Now it’s time to take your sustainable festive season to the next level at our Upcycled Festive Season Sewing Workshop.
This three-hour workshop will give you the opportunity to make beautiful handcrafted festive decorations using upcycled materials, to gift or decorate with, including bunting, tree decorations; stars & hearts, and crowns.
There will also be an opportunity to create drawstring gift bags that can be re-used for gift giving, ensuring we avoid the waste associated with single use festive gift wrap.
If you have an item that couldn't be repaired, or some fabric with sentimental meaning, that you would like to create something special with, please bring it along. The Recycled Sewing Studio will also have fabric for using.
Experience level: This workshop is best suited for people aged 12 and over, with some experience in sewing. It doesn’t have to be a lot! Even if you learnt at school and haven’t sewn for decades, under the guidance of Gail and her team you’ll soon pick it up.
Spaces are limited so book now to secure your place.
This event is being coordinated by Let Me Be Frank, on behalf of Bayside City Council, in conjunction with the Recycled Sewing Studio.
This project is supported by the Circular Economy Councils Fund. The Fund is delivered by Sustainability Victoria under the Victorian Government’s circular economy policy, Recycling Victoria: a new economy.
