Description

Storytelling has existed since time immemorial, passed down from generation to generation, within communities, nations and families.

Tony Birch, Anita Heiss, and Ali Cobby Eckermann reflect on the people who ensured those stories persisted. Chaired by Jasmin McGaughey, see these deadly storytellers speak on what it means to inherit that responsibility today.

Presented in partnership with Melbourne Writers Festival.

Blak & Bright is Australia’s leading organisation dedicated to showcasing and elevating First Nations literary voices.

Blak & Bright Writers Festival returns 3—6 September 2026 with EVERY:WHEN.

Through this year’s festival theme, audiences will engage with stories and conversations that challenge linear notions of past, present and future.

We are dedicated to celebrating the rich tapestry of First Nations writers across all genres. Our workshops, panels and performances create distinctive spaces for Blak conversations, showcasing writers at all stages of their careers to an expanding and increasingly diverse audience.
