Buddhist Council of NSW: Voice to Parliament Referendum Workshop
Event description
We hope you can join us at this workshop to learn more about the referendum that is being held later this year and to help develop a Buddhist response to the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
In the Uluru Statement from the Heart, First Nations people invited us all to "walk with them in a movement of the Australian people for a better future". Unfortunately many of us have had little contact with Aboriginal people and so may find it difficult to make the compassionate and generous response they deserve.
At this workshop, we will:
- hear from Jack Beetson, an Aboriginal man,
- have a Buddhist perspective from Bhante Sujato
- and discuss details of the referendum.
We will then work together on a response to the invitation in the Uluru Statement, based on Buddhist values that we can share with the wider community. We will also provide resources in English and community languages that you can share within your organisation.
