Event description

Step behind the scenes of Australia's leading biomedical engineering lab and see what it takes to develop life-saving technology.

The Critical Care Research Group’s Innovative Cardiovascular Engineering and Technology Laboratory (ICETLab) supports the development of devices such as artificial hearts and ventricular assist devices, bridging the divide between idea and clinical implementation. This work aims to increase survival rates and improve the quality of life for patients with life-threatening conditions such as heart failure.

ICETLab will open to the public Friday 4 October for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour.

Located on the grounds of The Prince Charles Hospital, one of Australia's largest cardiothoracic hospitals, ICETLab is uniquely placed at the intersection of clinical excellence and biomedical innovation where our doctors, nurses, surgeons and allied health professionals work hand in glove to translate novel devices and improve existing technology.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Witness ICETLab's world-leading mock circulatory loop in action.
  • Discover the role of Computer Fluid Dynamics, Rotary Moulding and 3D modelling in the development and improvement of medical devices.
  • Meet the biomedical engineers, clinicians and researchers driving healthcare and medtech innovation.
  • Meet your tour guide at the MAIN ENTRANCE of the hospital and be escorted to the Lab.
