Redesigning Work: The Decisions Leaders Cannot Delegate
Victoria needs 87,000 additional digital workers by 2035. Regional organisations cannot hire their way out of that gap, which means the way work gets done has to change.
Most organisations have never designed their systems. They have accumulated them. New tools get layered onto processes nobody has reviewed in years, and the result quietly limits what the organisation can do next. AI makes this urgent, because adding it to an undesigned system produces faster problems rather than better outcomes.
This session covers the decisions leaders need to make about how work is structured, where technology genuinely adds capacity, and what governance looks like when you are handling real customer data. We will also cover how the Bendigo Tech Community and our work with the Victorian Skills Association are building technical capability in the region, and how your organisation can plug into it.
Key Session Insights:
Designed versus accumulated. How to tell which systems in your organisation were chosen and which ones just happened, and why the difference determines what you can build next.
Where technology creates capacity. Practical examples of work redesigned to expand what a team can deliver, including where AI helps and where it adds risk without return.
The decisions you cannot delegate. What data your organisation will and will not use, who is accountable when a system gets something wrong, and which processes get redesigned rather than automated.
The regional pipeline. How tri-sector partnerships across education, technology, and business are addressing the 2035 workforce gap, and how partners can get involved.

👋 Hi, I'm Stef, and I empower people to build practical AI solutions. Building on decades of experience building platforms in the software engineering space, I've partnered with the best and brightest to bring Ligantic to life. The essential AI platform, from prototype to production. I'm a leader with a strong technology background and demonstrated experience leading an engineering team from early stages to operational excellence through systematising and scaling delivery business units. I started my career in the education sector, starting a digital department to deliver innovative digital products to automate workflows and reduce business overhead in a heavily regulated industry. Since then, I have moved into the enterprise software space, delivering complex solutions to the finance, manufacturing, utilities, IoT, and transport and logistics industries. I have an MBA specialising in Design Thinking, Technology and Innovation, and I am a certified Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) through IAPP. I am passionate about working with women in STEM, enabling entrepreneurship, and leveraging technology to enable creative endeavours. I connect my passions with my industry through volunteer positions as the organiser of the Bendigo Tech Community and regularly mentoring local entrepreneurs.
