Rise to the challenge and unleash your dance potential

Sydney dancers, it’s time to step up! Beat Breakdown is the newest 1v1 dance battle, bringing different styles to the Darling Harbour dance floor each month.

Whether you’re a master at breaking, popping, locking or waacking – this is your chance to share your style, win epic prizes and wow the crowd. 

Beat Breakdown is an open battle, with 30 spots available. Signing up for the battle is free, and it’s also free to watch. Bring your talent and your crew, it’s all on us!

Each month, a different dance style will be showcased and in June we’re shining a spotlight on Hip-Hop, the dynamic street dance that burst onto the scene in the 1970s. The vibrant fusion of dance styles originated from the bustling streets of New York and Los Angeles. Known for its expressive movements, intricate footwork, and rhythmic grooves, Hip-Hop embodies the spirit of innovation and community.

Special guests include judges Chiesan from ARTCRW and Tiff  in collaboration with local legends, Dancekool – the pioneering street dance studio.

The best two performers will progress to a final and are invited to a quarterly ‘All Star Battle’ in July.

Prizes

• The major prize winner will receive a prize pack valued at $350AUD and a feature post on @darlingharbour Instagram and Facebook channels ($200 Darling Quarter dining voucher and $150 IMAX voucher)
• The runner up prize winner will receive a prize pack valued at $200AUD and a feature post on @darlingharbour Instagram and Facebook channels ($150 Darling Quarter dining voucher and $50 IMAX voucher)
  
  

Battle Schedule

• 5.00pm: Dancer registrations
• 5.30pm: Opening Showcase
• 5.50pm: Top 30 (1 x 45 sec per dancer)
• 6.30pm: Top 16 (1 x 45 sec per dancer)
• 7.00pm: Top 8 (2 x rounds, 45 secs per dancer)
• 7.30pm: Judges Showcase
• 7.35pm: Top 4 (2 x rounds, 45 secs per dancer)
• 7.50pm: Final 2 (2 x 60 sec per dancer) and winner announced
• 8.00pm: DJ and jam time
• 8.30pm: Event concludes

Registrations for Thursday 20 June will close one week prior on Thursday 13 June. We’ll see you there! 

*Spots are capped at 30 per battle, so if you miss out on registration, you’ll be added to the waitlist. Participants must be over 16 to enter (participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
