Beat Breakdown
Event description
Rise to the challenge and unleash your dance potential
Sydney dancers, it’s time to step up! Beat Breakdown is the newest 1v1 dance battle, bringing different styles to the Darling Harbour dance floor each month.
Whether you’re a master at breaking, popping, locking or waacking – this is your chance to share your style, win epic prizes and wow the crowd.
Beat Breakdown is an open battle, with 16 spots available. Signing up for the battle is free, and it’s also free to
watch. Bring your talent and your crew, it’s all on us!
Each month, a different dance style will be showcased and in April it is all about Waacking - an extremely expressive, free and musical form of dance - characterised by arm movements, posing and emphasis on improvisation. Evolving from the West Coast in the early 70s with big disco vibes.
The best two performers will
progress to a final and are invited to a quarterly ‘All Star Battle’ in July.
Special guest judges include International sensation Akuma Diva from Taiwan and local legends Ms. Kandi Divine and Yuming with DJ Djinn on the decks, in collaboration with local legends, Dancekool – the pioneering street dance studio.
