Beau Creek Erosion Management Field Day

Event description

Beau Ridge Creek is the little creek that passes under Wattamolla Road at 1194, at the Kangaroo Valley end of Wattamolla Road. Everyone in Wattamolla knows this creek because it floods and blocks the road during heavy rain events. The floods are also causing the paddock downstream to be cut up by gully erosion.

The creek and its behaviour raise some interesting and significant questions. Why do the pipes under the road not carry the flood waters? Can the gullying and the loss of productive lands be halted? Can the natural processes of the creek be restored - but is this creek natural or man-made? And how much flows underground?

On Friday, May 3rd, Shoalhaven Landcare and Local Land Services (LLS) will be holding a field day at the site, to look at and try to understand the dynamics of a creek that sometimes carries massive amounts of water and sometimes disrupts our lives. From 10am, for an hour or so, we will do a walk and talk with the experts from Local Land Services, to look at and try to understand the how's and why's of this creek.

For those who can, we will then undertake some on ground works to restore the functioning of the creek which hopefully will resolve some of the issues. Join us at 1194A Wattamolla Road. BBQ lunch to follow.
