Sat, 29 Nov, 7:30pm - 9:30pm AEDT

Event description

At this Melbourne-only event, you’ll get the chance to watch three brand-new Beau Miles films before they're uploaded to YouTube.

Like our previous ‘Secret Screenings,’ these aren’t the final YouTube versions you’ll eventually see online—they’re somewhere between a first draft and the final cut. Along the way, Beau will tell a bunch of mediocre stories (some related to the films, some not at all), before finishing with a world-class Q&A.

This session was once described by an audience member* as the 'greatest thing he’s ever seen'.
(*That audience member was Beau.)

The Films

You’ll get to see three bootleg adventure films featuring an Olympic Gold Medalist, a Gold Logie winner, and—believe it or not—another World Champion Gold Medalist. Beau know's exactly how these people roll given he once got a ribbon for making a cake.

How to Roll a Kayak

Beau teaches two men how to roll a sea kayak. Both men have had underwhelming careers and are looking to try something new. As a combination of men, it’s a good combination, and enough stuff happens to make a film out of it.

The French Commute

Beau has a new job, hosting a TV show. This particular episode is shot in the French Alps with one of the worlds best kayakers. Naturally, Beau decides to ‘commute’ to the athlete’s house, taking three days on a rented town bike. It turns out the Alps have hills.

A Kayak Adventure

After teaching two men how to roll a kayak, they set off on a sea kayak tour. They eat a lot, paddle a bit, take forever to set up a tent, and attempt to catch fish. Cinematic masterpiece.

About Beau

Beau Miles has a beard because when he shaves he feels as if the wind has blown for the very first time. The stories that Beau cooks up are sometimes so mundane that by doing them they can become insightful. He loves finding things, not showering, eating spotty bananas and drinking a long pot of tea without the company of a phone. Beau’s second book Bad River is almost done, and has been almost done for several years. He’s a dad, husband, and horrible at picking the best line at the airport.

Overview

  • 6:30 PM - The Astor Theatre opens: Beverages and snacks are available in the foyer.

  • 7:30 PM - Film Screening: Runtime of 125 minutes, which includes a collection of films, a 20 minute intermission and a Q+A with Beau.

  • 9:35 PM - Evening concludes

Want a bit extra? Join Beau for the VIP Roundtable.

Grab a drink from the bar, nab a personalised copy of The Backyard Adventurer (Beau's book), and pull up a chair for a yarn with Beau before the show. It’s super informal, but with just enough structure to make sure everyone gets a crack at asking questions. The VIP experience runs for 45 minutes and kicks off at 6pm.
