Event description
As part of the Shire's school holiday youth program, the youth team are offering an opportunity for young people aged 12-24 to attend a free crafts session at the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Resource Centre in Mundijong! What will you be crafting?! Beeswax Wraps and Bee Hotels! That's right, you better BEElieve it!
What even is Beeswax Wraps and Bee Hotels you ask?
Beeswax wraps arereusable, natural food coverings made from cotton infused with beeswax, tree resin, and oil, serving as a sustainable, plastic-free alternative to cling film.
A bee hotel is anartificial nesting structure, or "trap nest," designed to provide homes and shelter for native, solitary bees, who typically nest in hollow stems, wood, or other natural cavities. These structures offer a safe space for these bees to raise their young, helping to support local populations as natural habitats decline in urban and suburban areas.
The Youth team will help you make them because one of us is an expert in making them both so that's good for all of us!
