This 8 class (20 hour) beginner course is a small class (max. 6 students with 2 teachers) so that people will receive the assistance they need to significantly increase their sewing skills as a basis for upcycling clothing and textiles. 

Class times and dates (They don't include school holidays): Fridays 12.30 - 3pm, Feb 17, 24, Mar 10, 17, 24, 31, Apr 28, May 5

This class will teach sewing skills aimed at those with no to limited sewing ability - a 'back to basics' class. Skills taught will include:

  • sewing machine use,
  • different seams, seam finishes and hems and understanding when to use them
  • use of cording and elastic 
  • inserting zips

Techniques will be incorporated into projects, so that by the end of the 8 weeks students will have completed a few different projects - e.g. bags, clothing made from other clothing or textiles, or alterations and upcycling of existing garments. All materials, patterns and use of equipment included in course fee.

Students can bring their own machine, or use ours. We will use recycled and reclaimed fabrics and haberdashery items, and teach sewing rules and then how to break them!!
