Beginner Adult Sewing Course @ Upcycle Newcastle
Event description
This 8 class (20 hour) beginner course is a small class (max. 6 students with 2 teachers) so that people will receive the assistance they need to significantly increase their sewing skills as a basis for upcycling clothing and textiles.
Class times and dates: Wednesdays 10am - 12.30pm, Oct 11 till Nov 29 (Public School Term - Weeks 1 to 8)
This class will teach sewing skills aimed at those with no to limited sewing ability - a 'back to basics' class. Skills taught will include:
- sewing machine use,
- different seams, seam finishes and hems and understanding when to use them
- use of cording and elastic
- inserting zips
Techniques will be incorporated into projects including:
- Pen/pencil wrap (can also be used for tools, make-up items etc)
- Drawstring backpack
- Elastic waistband pants
- Zippered toiletries/makeup bag
All materials, patterns and use of equipment included in course fee.
Students can bring their own machine, or use ours. We will use recycled and reclaimed fabrics and haberdashery items, and teach sewing rules and then how to break them!!
