Hill Top Hives - Beginners Beekeeping Course

Our Beginners Beekeeping Course consists of two parts:
Part A is a 3.0 to 4.0 hour online theory session delivered to you live (Via ZOOM) in the comfort of your home ( over two consecutive Wednesday evenings -7.00pm to 9.00pm )
PART B is a 4.0 hour open hive field day at our apiary in Mirboo North covering hands on experience opening and inspecting beehives. There will be many opportunities to ask questions and participate in discussion.
The course includes: honeybee social structure, stages of bee development, nutrition, inspecting brood, lighting a smoker, opening and reassembling a beehive safely, beekeeping equipment, identifying common pests and diseases (Including monitoring and managing vsrroa mite) and beekeeper responsibilities,
THE FIELD DAY WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR THE SATURDAY OR SUNDAY AFTER THE FIRST THEORY SESSION (WEATHER DEPENDING), OR RESHEDULED IF NECESSARY. PLEASE KEEP TWO CONSECUTIVE WEEKENDS "FREE" IF YOU CAN.
Morning Tea and Lunch with refreshments will be provided for you at the field day. Please bring a water bottle.
No previous beekeeping experience is necessary to register and the course is also relevant for beekeepers starting out with a Flow Hive.
If you have a known anaphylactic reaction to bee stings we discourage you from registering for this course.
