Behind the Archives: A Design Discovery

The Caroline Simpson Library, Museums of History NSW, will open its archives for an exclusive session for APDG members. This intimate discovery event invites participants to explore rare collections, research materials, and historic interiors that have inspired acclaimed Australian productions.

For this special occasion, the Library will curate materials used in the research for Melinda Doring’s award-winning production design on The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, offering a unique insight into the creative process behind this acclaimed television series. Melinda will be joined by Joanna Nicholas from Museums of History NSW, who will share how she used the library’s collection in the revitalisation of the drawing room at historic Vaucluse House, Sydney.

From architectural pattern books and textiles to personal papers and design fragments, the Library’s holdings offer a rich source of inspiration for film, theatre and screen design. With only 25 places available, this is a rare opportunity to step inside one of Sydney’s most significant design libraries and uncover resources that illuminate the artistry of production design.
