Behind the Design is a new AIGA Indianapolis event series that invites our creative community behind the curtain to see how design comes to life in the real world. Through partnerships with local businesses, studios, and organizations, this series offers an inside look at the thinking, process, and collaboration that shape meaningful design.

Each event spotlights a different perspective—whether it’s the intentional design of a physical space, the strategy behind a campaign, or the work a design team creates for clients. Attendees will hear directly from the people doing the work, gaining insight into how ideas move from concept to execution.

Designed to inspire, educate, and connect, Behind the Design creates space for curiosity and conversation while highlighting the creative talent and innovation happening throughout Indianapolis. By opening doors and sharing processes, the series helps designers at all stages learn from one another and leave with fresh ideas to apply to their own work.

RA Opticians

For this edition of Behind the Design, we’re partnering with RA Opticians, an independent optical boutique redefining eyewear in Indianapolis. During this special event, the team will share the story of how RA Opticians came to be, their passion for optometry, and the intention behind bringing handcrafted, luxury frames from around the world to their local community. They’ll also walk us through their unique approach to styling clients, showing how they blend expertise, personality, and design to find the perfect specs. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the team, ask questions, and explore their curated eyewear collection up close.
