Event description

Being Tangata Tiriti: a Pākehā Project Taster

A one-day workshop exploring the beautiful restorative work of being tangata Tiriti in Aotearoa.

Who can we be for each other?

———————

We live in discombobulating times. And cracks are showing everywhere. So much that we thought was secure is shifting and changing.

But here in Aotearoa, we have an extraordinary pou—Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Come along for a day of depth; exploring the amazing potential that the relational space of Te Tiriti has for us all. This one is for tangata Tiriti who are deeply committed to an ethic of restoration in Aotearoa and want to go beyond an intellectual understanding.

Join Rebecca and Mel from The Pākehā Project for this one-day workshop exploring the mahi we as tangata Tiriti can do in the journey towards a Tiriti-led future. Using practices of Haumanu, a healing-centred approach to systems change, we’ll be inquiring into our own roles in reweaving the relational fabric that Te Tiriti o Waitangi offered to all people in Aotearoa, but that did not happen at the time.

We invite you into a space for gently inquiring into your unique place in the system rewiring itself. How do we show up where Māori are calling us to be? We'll be exploring relationality and worldview; the nervous system as map for working with activation; systemic racism, the orthodox Western worldview—its whakapapa and how it shows up in ourselves, our systems and society; and our roles in restorative systems change for a Tiriti-based future. It will be interactive, embodied, and nourishing.

Let's create islands of coherence in this turbulent world.

We'll host you upstairs at Vogelmorn Bowling Club, in the beautiful hills of Brooklyn, Te Whanganui-a-Tara. There'll be delicious kai, and a chance to resource yourself, in communion with others. We are so looking forward to welcoming you.

About the facilitators

Rebecca Sinclair (Pākehā—Scottish, English)
Rebecca is a facilitator, coach, and complex systems geek - helping her fellow Pākehā come back into the flow of life, and let go of colonial patterns that separate us from ourselves, each other, and te taiao. She is fascinated by the intangible, the improper and the in-between and how everything is always so much more extraordinary than we might think. She is an experienced tertiary educator, Co-founder of The Pākehā Project, Haumanu coach with Centre for Social Impact, a certified Warm Data Lab Host with the International Bateson Institute, and Honorary Research Fellow at Toi Rauwhārangi, College of Creative Arts, Massey University.

Mel Hare (Pākehā— Irish)

Mel is a highly experienced facilitator, consultant and leadership coach. Trained through Sydney-based IECL, Mel is an alum of the Pākehā Project Leadership Journey and a Haumanu coach, and weaves this critical perspective into her practice. She is deeply committed to restorative and relational ways of working and being. Mel was born in Sydney Australia, and her ancestors immigrated from Ireland. She acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which she grew up. Now her heart is in Aotearoa, where she lives in Wellington with her family.
