Bel Canto in the Valley

What music might have echoed across the Mulgoa Valley in the mid-19th Century?  Join Matthew Stephens, Curator of the ‘Songs of Home’ exhibition, Museum of Sydney (2019), in the drawing room of the magnificent Fernhill Estate as he introduces us to musical trends in the colony and the star power of some of the world's greatest singers visiting NSW in the 1850s.  He will be followed by soprano Anna Fraser and historical keyboardist Neal Peres Da Costa in a unique concert embodying historical practices in performance.  Hear music from the past interpreted through a form of reverse engineering in which approaches to vocal and piano technique, early recordings and annotated historical sheet music are being used to underscore a new approach to making music in historic settings.

Refreshments will be provided by FFMV Inc before the concert.
