Event description

The sun is out, the weather is warming up, and the weeds are going wild!

Join North Coast Local Land Services for a morning of learning and getting your hands dirty, where we’ll identify local weeds, apply the best weed control techniques, and help restore riparian vegetation and protect local ecosystems.

Event details:

This workshop is designed for landholders involved in the North Coast LLS Bellinger River Snapping Turtle project or living in the Darkwood area.

What to expect:

  • Learn to identify common local weed species and understand their lifecycles and spreading mechanisms.

  • Discover best practice weed control strategies, techniques, and equipment.

  • Practice weed removal methods with guidance from an experienced bush regenerator.

  • Hear from Saving Our Species, Yurruungga Aboriginal Corporation, and Bellinger Landcare.

  • Learn how weed control supports threatened ecological communities like Lowland Rainforest.

Why attend:

  • Build practical skills in weed identification and control.

  • Contribute to restoring riparian vegetation and protecting local ecosystems.

  • Connect with like-minded landholders and conservation experts.

  • Morning tea and lunch provided – please share dietary requirements when registering.

  • Parking is available – the location will be provided closer to the date and will be signposted at the venue.

  • Accessibility – some sites may be steep/uneven; let us know your needs when booking.

  • What to bring:

    • Weather-appropriate clothing and PPE for outdoor activities

    • Bug spray, sunscreen

    • Water and a reusable bottle (some water provided)
