I started Belly dancing when I was 15 years old. At the time, Shakira was quite popular and I wanted to move just like her. Ironically, a neighbor who lived down the street from me was taking belly dancing classes and asked if I wanted to come to her studio. I did, and as they say, the rest is history. I danced at the Na’ama Rose Dance Center for 2 years. Once I entered college, I started the Habibti Rakkasah Belly Dance Troupe, where I taught belly dance and threw elaborate showcases every year with nationally recognized belly dancers and troupes. Since college, I have studied with many teachers and tried various belly dancing styles and I have performed on stages across the city. A forever student, I am always looking to improve my craft and share what I love with the world. I started Crafted Movement in 2018 to share this beautiful art form and to encourage people to GET UP and MOVE!
About Crafted Movement: Crafted Movement is an organization that wants to inspire people to GET UP and MOVE! Created by lifelong dancer, Danielle Lauren Echols, she believes that everyone's body was crafted to move in their own special and unique way. She teaches dance workshops and performs around the Chicagoland area. She encourages her students to use their body's full range of motion, increase their body-mind connection, challenge themselves, and find joy in the movement that their bodies can produce. Many of her moves are inspired by her years studying belly dancing, and she always incorporates music and dance moves from the various genres she’s taken. You can find her online on Instagram @Crafted_movement.
