Beltane Celebration
Event description
Beltane is a Celtic holiday, and one of the eight Sabbats celebrated by the Celts. It falls about halfway between the spring equinox (Ostara) and the coming summer solstice. The holiday celebrates spring at its peak, and the coming summer. Beltane (sometimes referred to as May Day) is a Celtic word, meaning “the fires of Bel.” Bel, likely referred to the Celtic sun god, Belenus.
Join us as we come together to celebrate the coming of summer and take time to play! At 6:00 pm there will be an opportunity to paint your face (feel free to come in your spring head dress and furs is you have them, yes, feel free to think of this as a fertility costume party!) We will gather at the labyrinth at 6:30 pm to open the ceremony. From there we will light the bonfire of spring and begin our drumming meditation with conscious dance led by Shannon Kennedy, followed by drum circle and open dancing and drumming around the bonfire. (if you have a drum bring it!
