    Event description

Tenzin Choegyal’s new concert series, Be the Ocean, continues to explore subtle aspects of the five elements – earth, water, fire, air and space. In this cross-cultural collaboration Tenzin's powerful voice and intuitive poetry invoke a special sense of peace, strength and emotional connection. Through music, narration and visuals the artists weave an evocative soundscape, drawing on the strong allegory of the ocean to inspire new thoughts, stir shifts in perspective and create space for contemplation.

Artist, composer, activist, musical director and cultural ambassador, Tenzin Choegyal is one of the world’s finest musicians in the Tibetan tradition, proudly continuing the nomadic lineage which is central to his repertoire. He continues to draw inspiration from classical Tibetan texts and poetry at the same time taking an experimental approach to sound, instrumentation and musical performance. In this premiere for Tenzin's national Be the Ocean tour, he will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Cye Wood, koto master Takako Nishibori and the thundering sounds of Taiko drums led by Kaya Tominaga and her ensemble.

BEMAC Presents features world-leading artists whose work pushes through the boundaries of identity to pose important questions, challenge entrenched ideas, and enable change; role models for the diverse and representative arts sector that BEMAC exists to enrich.
