    Event description

‘When Music Meets Heart’ is a sonic adventure into the healing power of sound and rhythm led by percussionist Atman Okyay and sound healer Chiho Kagawa. Through an intercultural musical dialogue that quotes from Middle Eastern, Turkish, Balkan, Flamenco, Latin and Jazz traditions, the quartet, completed by Bart Stenhouse and Shani Forrester, create exquisite, melodic and meditative grooves with enchanting, immersive soundscapes that evoke emotions and harness the power of music to uplift and heal.

Atman Okyay is a percussionist born and raised in Turkey, whose music aims to connect West and East and regularly facilitates therapeutic Sound Journeys. Chiho Kagawa is a qualified sound healer who performs on a rare Glass Armonica, 432hz crystal bowls and with her enchanting, transformative voice. Bart Stenhouse brings his knowledge of jazz, world, fusion, and improvisational styles of music to the ensemble, specialising in the classic and flamenco guitar. Shani Forrester, with her versatile musical talents, adds depth to the ensemble through her mastery of various instruments, including vocals, mandolin, flutes, and trumpet. Together, they create unique and improvised pieces that reflect the energy of the moment for a musical experience that is both diverse and unified.

BEMAC Unplugged is a series of intimate shows celebrating cross-cultural collaboration between a diverse range of musicians, genres and instruments, recreating the vibe of BEMAC’s shows at its original home in Yungaba.
