Beneath the Surface: Know Your Soil with Lucy Porter and Bonnie Armour
Description
If you’re curious about sustainable agriculture and ready to deepen your knowledge, this workshop is for you!
As part of National Agriculture Day celebrations, soil specialists Lucy Porter (SA Drought Hub) and Bonnie Armour (Climate Smart Agriculture Officer, Landscape Hills and Fleurieu) are teaming up with Adam Krahnert of Coopers Mt Pleasant to deliver a practical workshop exploring the foundations of productive and resilient pastures: healthy soils.
For part one: Bring along a soil sample from your property and learn how to better understand what's happening beneath the surface. Through hands-on demonstrations, you'll investigate soil texture, pH, slaking and dispersion using simple field-testing techniques and practical ute guides. Discover what soil testing can reveal, how to interpret results, and why regular monitoring is valuable for pasture management and decision-making.
For part two: Participants will walk through a local soil trial site comparing multi-species pastures managed with synthetic and biological approaches, revealing what regenerative farming methods can achieve - the outcomes may surprise you!
This workshop offers an opportunity to build your soil knowledge, connect with fellow landholders, and gain practical tools to support healthier landscapes and more productive farming systems.
Please bring a soil sample from your property along on the day for testing and discussion.
This event is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust.
