AFTER HOURS ART SESSIONS IS ESCAPING TO THE TABLELANDS!

These aren’t art classes. They’re creative escapes.

Four hours around one big table.

A ridiculous amount of colour.

Plenty of guidance from me.

Good humans, creative carry-on and absolutely no requirement to arrive knowing what you’re doing.

Beneath the Surface is a beginner-friendly watercolour and acrylic marker session where I’ll show you how to build your painting step by step using colour, patterns, marks, textures, trees and tangled roots.

Everyone starts with the same basic idea.

Nobody finishes with the same painting.

You’ll choose your own colours, patterns and little creative detours along the way, so by the end of the afternoon every piece around the table has become completely its own thing.

That’s one of my favourite bits.

And if at some point you look down at your painting and wonder what the hell you’ve done....

Excellent.

That happens around the After Hours table more often than you’d think 😂

THE STORY BEHIND BENEATH THE SURFACE

Some of the most beautiful parts of us can’t be seen.

We spend so much of life showing the world our branches....

Our smile, our achievements, our roles and all the parts of ourselves everyone else gets to see.

But beneath the surface is everything that makes us who we are.

The people who shaped us.

The moments that changed us.

The challenges we’ve lived through.

The dreams we still carry.

The lessons we never expected to learn.

That’s where the roots in this painting came from.

They became a place to quietly add the things that belong underneath your surface.... words, names, dates, symbols, memories or little details that mean something to you.

They might represent courage, love, loss, adventure, hope, family or resilience.

Or something only you will ever understand.

Or you can leave all of that out completely and simply make a bloody beautiful painting.

There are no compulsory deep and meaningful moments around here.

That’s the lovely thing about Beneath the Surface.

Everyone starts with the same basic idea, but what grows underneath becomes completely their own.

The world might see the tree.

You know what lives beneath the surface.

WHAT THE AFTERNOON ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

You’ll arrive at Ribbonwood Farm Retreat in Walkamin and take a seat around the After Hours table with a small group of other adults.

We'll create together, I'll be guiding as we go and help you with techniques, colour choices, patterns and any creative emergencies that pop up along the way.

There’s no racing to keep up.

There’s no copying my painting exactly.

And there is definitely no expectation that you already know how to paint.

We paint.

We chat.

We experiment.

We make questionable creative decisions.

We change our minds.

We add another colour because obviously we needed another colour.

And somehow, about four hours later, it all comes together.

At the end of the afternoon, your artwork goes into a beautiful frame of your choice and comes home with you.

The painting is the souvenir. The afternoon around the table is the good bit.

“BUT I’M NOT CREATIVE...”

Perfect.

I’ve got you covered.

A lot of people who come to After Hours tell me they’re “not creative”, have never painted before or haven’t picked up a paintbrush since school.

You do not need to know what you’re doing.

That’s literally why I’m there.

I’ll show you the techniques, give you plenty of options and help when something goes a bit rogue or you get personally betrayed by a section of your painting.

You can come on your own too.

Lots of people do.

Once everyone is sitting around the same table with paint in front of them, the awkward bit tends to disappear pretty quickly.
