Event description

As the world faces the growing impacts of climate change, the need for multisectoral collaboration and innovative solutions has never been more critical. In the race to create a sustainable future, we must not only focus on human well-being but also protect the diverse species that share our planet. It's time to reassess our relationship with nature, restore balance in how we use resources, and prioritize the survival of all living beings.

While often overlooked, zoos are emerging as vital players in the fight to mitigate climate change. Institutions are increasingly involved in innovative conservation efforts that reach far beyond their gates. From public education campaigns and corporate partnerships to ground-breaking nature-based solutions and the Hatch Accelerator Program, organizations like the Taronga Conservation Society Australia are driving critical behind-the-scenes initiatives.

Join us for this discussion panel and go beneath the surface of Taronga’s unique contributions to combating climate change, uncovering the lesser-known strategies that not only protect wildlife but also contribute to ecosystem resilience and community engagement.

Speakers include:

  • Dr Justine O'Brien: Manager of Conservation Science at Taronga
  • Chris Ewing: Manager of Restoration Projects at Taronga
  • Belinda Fairbrother: Manager of Guest Learning and Community Impact at Taronga
  • Michael McFadden: Wildlife Conservation Officer

Plus, enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Taronga's groundbreaking sustainability initiatives and the world’s largest Coral CryoDiversity Bank, and discover how these efforts are shaping a resilient future for both wildlife and ecosystems (limited spots available for these tours).
