Life isn’t all plain sailing, they say, but tell that to the people who joined us for our hattrick of sold-out River Cruise Wine Masterclass sessions during winter! It was such rewarding fun that we’re clearing the decks to embark on a celebratory extravaganza of these great riparian regions and their fabulous wines.
The initial series took in the Loire and Rhône in France, the Mosel and Rhine in Germany and the Danube in Austria, with local wine writer and educator Ed Merrison imparting wisdom at every turn in his role as tour guide.
On Saturday, 25th October, we’re hosting a four-course dinner paired with wines from each of those regions—we’re looking at you, Rheingau, Vouvray, Wachau, Saint-Joseph, Mosel, Gigondas—and we're pushing the boat out with single-vineyard cuvées and other top-flight bottles. In keeping with the breadth and depth of the original masterclass series, we’re not just shining a light on geographical diversity, but also stylistic range--sparkling, aromatic whites, fuller whites, spicy reds and a luscious sticky will all make the menu.
The team in the Merricks Store kitchen have let their imagination take them way downstream with incredible food pairings, and this dinner signals the culmination of this with some inspired pairings.
And what’s a cruise without a little playfulness at the captain’s table? We'll have a couple of games lined up to see who can navigate the rapids of tricky questions and make it safely to the port of vinous prizes.
