Event description

Join us for an informative and hands-on seminar dedicated to controlling Blackberry in the Moorabool region. Hosted by Moorabool Catchment Landcare Group (MCLG) in collaboration with Blackwood/Barrys Reef Landcare, Greendale/Wombat Landcare and the Victorian Blackberry Taskforce (VBT), this workshop will provide you with the knowledge and tools necessary to manage this invasive weed effectively.

The event will kick off at 10:00 am with introductions by Jackson Cass (MCLG Coordinator) and an overview of the collaboration between all the groups in the Partnerships Against Pests (PAP) program.

Following this our expert speaker Robin Adair, Director of Australis Biological will present on the history, impacts, legal status/requirements, biology, and identification of blackberry. Robin has worked for 32 years researching invasive species management and control and is highly experienced in the use of pesticides and fire for invasive plant management.

Lunch will be provided, giving you a chance to meet and chat among other participants.

Participants will receive a laminated A2 printout of their property to map blackberry infestations and assist in property management. Photos of each completed property map will be taken for mapping purposes with the landholder's consent. Landcare will work with landholders who complete this mapping component to potentially obtaining funding in the future to assist them with on-ground control of blackberry.
Please register before Sep 8 to receive your property map on the day of the event!

The workshop will conclude with a property visit just outside of Gordon where we will have a practical demonstration of herbicide application and drone technology to control blackberry. These infestations represent an open paddock and severe infestations underneath a tree canopy in bushland. This is a great opportunity to ask any practical questions regarding hands-on blackberry control.

Seminar Features:

  • Interactive sessions with expert speakers

  • Hands-on plant identification and mapping activities.

  • Networking opportunities with other landholders and experts

  • Laminated A2 property maps provided to assist in property planning

  • Opportunity to potentially obtain grant funding in the future to assist with on-ground control works

This workshop is an invaluable opportunity to learn effective strategies for managing blackberry and to connect with a supportive community of landholders and experts. Don’t miss out on this chance to enhance your skills and knowledge in invasive weed control.

Places are limited to just 25, register now to secure your spot.

We look forward to seeing you there and working together to protect our catchment from blackberry. For more information contact us at moorabool.landcare@gmail.com
