Better Streets for Kids: empowering everyday activism

Join us for the "BetterStreets for Kids Workshop," an inspiring and educational event designed to empower individuals of all ages to bring activism into their daily lives. This workshop is especially focused on creating safer, more inclusive, and kid-friendly streets in our communities. BetterStreets for Kids are Better Streets for all.
Highlights of the Workshop:
- Interactive Sessions: Engage in dynamic discussions and activities led by Dr. Megan Sharkey and Sara Stace. These sessions are tailored to provide practical skills and knowledge on how to advocate for child-friendly urban spaces.
- Advocacy Training: Learn effective strategies for everyday campaigning, including how to use social media for activism, engage with local authorities, and building a local BetterStreets coalition.
- Collaborative learning: You will participate in groups where we will apply actions in real time. And given our enthusiastic attendees coming a great opportunity to brainstorm ideas for making streets safer for children.
- Resource Materials: We will share the resources to help you continue your activism journey after the workshop.
- Networking Opportunities: Connect with like-minded individuals and organizations who are passionate about creating better streets for kids. This is a chance to build a supportive community network.

Presenters:
Dr. Megan Sharkey is a city transformation and transition specialist with a talent for connecting top-down strategic thinking with bottom-up innovation and behaviour change. Megan is passionate about systems thinking, resiliency, urban planning, and strategic sustainability, and has developed numerous programs bringing meaningful action for sustainability and the improved health of people and cities. Megan is a co-ounder of BetterStreets.
Sara Stace is a city shaper, strategic thinker and innovator with extensive knowledge about cities, land use, and urban transport. Worked at federal, state and local government, and private sector over 25 years.She is on the board of World Cycling Alliance and Better Streets. Written and co-authored 20 publications including for United Nations, Australian Government, and an artificial intelligence (AI) patent. Won 16 national and state awards for excellence in project delivery, program management and contribution to the public sector.

Event opens at 4:30pm
Event starts at 5pm.
Event will be finished by 7pm.
Event recording
Event will not be online, however we plan to record the event and package it online with support materials. Will be our first try!
