Better Things Are Possible: Author Jack Toohey in conversation with Thomas Walker and Tegan Lerm
Event description
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Better Things Are Possible is a timely and hopeful manifesto. Jack Toohey cuts through the noise to expose what’s broken—and shows how we can fix it.
On Wednesday, 5th November, join author and activist Jack Toohey, economist Tom Walker (CEO of Think Forward) and climate activist Tegan Lerm (co-founder of Project Planet and Build a Ballot) as we dive into and celebrate Jack's new book.
We'll discuss whether better things are possible, and what that might look like. Come prepared to have your say, too. As Jack puts it in the book, it's on all of us to take responsibility and create the future we want to see.

ABOUT THE BOOK
In a time of crisis, Better Things Are Possible is a call to courage, connection, and action.
We’re living through a time of urgent, undeniable need for change. Enter Jack Toohey—a skilled communicator with a rare ability to make complex issues clear, relatable, and actionable. In Better Things Are Possible, he offers a compelling manifesto for progress, dismantling the apathy and helplessness that so often accompany today’s biggest challenges. From the housing crisis and climate change to gender inequity, mental health, and a disconnected political class, Toohey reveals how many of our social and political failures are deeply interconnected—and how we can begin to fix them. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the state of the world, you're not alone. But we built these systems, and that means we can reimagine them. This book is a rallying cry—for hope over cynicism, action over inaction. It’s about shifting the narrative to create real and lasting change.

ABOUT TOM WALKER
Thomas (Tom) is an economist, geographer, and CEO of Think Forward, a not-for-profit research and advocacy organisation founded and run by younger Australians. Think Forward was established to demonstrate that it is Australia’s economic and tax policies—not a lack of education, hard work, or saving—that hinder younger generations from building their lives. We highlight the injustices within the tax system that allow the already wealthy to get richer, while those of us starting out in life are denied a foothold on the economic security ladder.
