Between Natura, the Inaugural Exhibition, A PETAL Project Initiative

Dates of Exhibition: August 13- October 19, 2024
Submissions are open to Texas artists, working in any visual medium, who have taken their inspiration from the natural environment of the North Texas area.
Between Natura is an invitation to explore and acknowledge the ever-flowing relationship between artists and the natural world. Composed of work that addresses this relationship between artist and muse, this inaugural PETAL exhibition seeks to showcase the diverse beauty and wonder of the unique North Texas natural landscape.
The exhibition will encourage questions on stewardship of wild spaces and will showcase how each artist is influenced by the region—an area more often turned over to real estate than preserved for intrinsic worth (as seen by the < 1% of the Blackland Prairie that remains, one of our most endangered ecosystems). Practically, because aesthetic appreciation raises collective and individual states of consciousness that influence public policies and individual behaviors. Aesthetically, because in the words of John Burroughs, “I go to nature to be soothed and healed and to have my senses put in tune once again.”
The PETAL Project is a North Texas-based environmental education initiative fostering Participatory Environmentalism Through Art and Learning. The PETAL Project provides educational opportunities to cultivate purposeful community environmental literacy and care.
Please Note -The Greater Denton Arts Council retains a 30% commission of the purchase price for all art sold in the Galleries or sold as a direct result of the exhibition.
Fees: $10 Artist Fee with options for Sliding Scale, Pay It Forward, and Scholarships.
