It has been 6 years since Beyond Bricks & Bars was imagined into existence by the love, care and commitment of trans and gender diverse community inside and outside the prison walls.
This is a night to celebrate and recognise the staunch advocacy, fight and solidarity of currently and formerly incarcerated trans and gender diverse people, hold space for those who cannot be there with us and remember that no matter the walls in-between - we stand as community.
Please join us in celebrating the power of community and collective care as we continue to build the world we all need together

ACCESSIBILITY:
Kines is wheelchair accessible from the street and the front door is 1 metre wide, however the toilet is not wheelchair accessible. The main event will be in the front outdoor section of Kines which is concrete and undercover, it is likely to be quite busy but tables will be mostly on the edges of the event. All doorways are 900mm wide or larger including the bathroom doors. The closest accessible toilet is a public toilet at Bulleke-Bek park which is at a public park 250 metres from Kines. There is also an accessible toilet at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel on the corner of Albion and Sydney Road.
The event will be mostly outdoors in an undercovered area, while the bar and food will be inside. There will be smoking allowed outdoors and music which could vary in volume including live music, performers and DJ's. When you come to the venue there will be people at the door to mark off your name via Humanitix.
Public Transport and Parking: There is limited parking close to Kines, especially on weekends. There is a carpark opposite Kines that has accessible parking spots. Anstey train station (Upfield line) is 300m away from Kines and the Sydney Rd tram (no.19) is also 250-300 meters away.

Beyond Bricks & Bars pays our deep respect to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation who lands this event will take place on. We recognise the historic and ongoing violence of colonisation both on these lands and globally, and stand in solidarity with all First Nations people’s resistance. From the river to the sea, always was and always will be.
