Beyond Colonial Habits

How has the experience of colonial Australia shaped who you are as a practitioner?

For those working in health, justice, education, welfare and community services, our professional "tools" often come wrapped in colonial structures we haven’t fully examined. This six-month professional development series offers a dedicated space to unlearn, reflect, and grow.

Why join this cohort? Too often, First Nations people are expected to do the "heavy lifting" of education in this space. This series invites Second Peoples to step up and do our own work—informed by First Nations perspectives but focused on our own internal and professional transformation.

What we will explore:

· The personal and professional impacts of Settler Colonialism.

· Unwinding harmful attitudes, emotional responses, and systemic "blind spots”.

· Developing an ethic of practice that moves beyond colonial habits.

· Applying counter colonial frameworks to our practice

The Details

· When: Last Wed of each month from June to November.

· Time: 9.30 -12.30

· Where: Jika Jika Community Centre, Northcote.

· Cost: $800 (covers all 6 sessions).

Commitment to the Circle: To build a high-trust Community of Practice, we request that participants commit to all six sessions. This allows the group to develop the depth and integrity required for true reflective work.
