When cure isn’t possible, what does good care look like?
This talk brings together researchers and clinicians to explore how we care for people living with progressive health conditions, including Parkinson’s, dementia and multiple sclerosis. From multidisciplinary models to digital innovations, the conversation will highlight how care is evolving to support dignity, capability and quality of life.
The event will also mark the launch of ParkinsonNet, a new Australian initiative designed to connect people with Parkinson’s and allied health professionals through a collaborative online care model.

The Experts
Doctor Larissa Bartlett
Doctor Larissa Bartlett is the Mind Games Research Fellow (Mental Health) at the University of Tasmania’s Menzies Institute for Medical Research. Her work focuses on mindfulness, mental health, behaviour change and public-health interventions, including large-scale studies to reduce dementia risk.
Professor Michele Callisaya
Professor Michele Callisaya is a Principal Research Fellow at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research and a registered physiotherapist. Her research focuses on falls, frailty and neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, dementia and stroke, integrating clinical practice with population-based research.
Professor Jane Alty
Professor Jane Alty is a neurologist, researcher and educator at the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre. Her work uses digital and AI-based approaches to improve early detection, monitoring and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
Doctor Joanna Sun
Doctor Joanna Sun is an environmental gerontologist at the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre. Her research explores how physical, social and built environments shape ageing, wellbeing and quality of life, informing age-friendly design and dementia-inclusive care settings.
Doctor Pauline Marsh
Dr Pauline Marsh is a Health Geographer in the Venture Out Living Lab at the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, University of Tasmania. Her research examines how connection with nature supports quality of life, with a focus on the therapeutic benefits of gardens and outdoor environments for people living with cognitive, emotional and physical health challenges. She uses participatory and creative research methods to inform dementia-inclusive practice.
