Beyond Identity® Multicultural Festival in Numurkah - Creative and Performing Arts Workshops

Calling all international students, international workers, people from migrant and refugee backgrounds and diverse communities living or working in or near Moira Shire for a FREE creative and performance workshop series!
About
Have you ever wondered about your identities, about who you are, where your roots are and what you dream of becoming? Do you have an interest in storytelling, performance and art? As If so, we'd like to invite you to be part of a series of creative and performing arts workshops, and a multicultural festival Numurkah. It is a self-discovery process, come to explore your gender, culture, migration journey, sexuality, family, and many more identities you are yet to find out. Share your stories and connect with one another.
The workshops will cover a range of different creative and performing arts, and will be facilitated by a range of talented and passionate artists and performers from Moira Shire and surrounds. You can find one way or another to express yourself.
No matter what your create, share it at the Beyond Identity® Moira Multicultural Festival!
FREE
No arts experiences required. Beginners welcome.
All you need is a desire to give it a go, learn some new skills, meet some new people and share your story.
Why
Through this project, you will be able to:
- Make friends with others in your local community
- Develop your storytelling skills in different art forms: dance, poetry, street art, music, filming, etc
- Receive a $50 stipend towards any travel costs
- Share your story and connect with others at the festival
- Express your identity beyond single labels and share your unique story through a creative medium
Dates and times
Five different workshops:
- Friday 31 May, 6 - 8 pm
- Saturday 1 June, 11 - 1 pm, 2 - 4 pm
- Sunday 2 June, 11 - 1pm, 2 - 4 pm
Rehearsal Day: to prepare for the festival
- Saturday 15 June (11 - 4 pm with a break)
Beyond Identity® Moira Multicultural Festival Day: story sharing
- Saturday 22 June, 11 am - 3 pm
- Location: Numurkah Town Hall (different from the workshop location)
Accessibility
The Numurkah Community Learning Centre is fully wheelchair accessible and we'd love to chat to you about any support you need or any requirements you have to ensure you can comfortably and safely participate in and enjoy the workshops.
Families welcome. All abilities welcome.
Make the most of the workshops
You can choose to attend some or all of the workshops, depending on your availability. We recommend you attend at least 3 of the workshops to get the most out of your experience. Please contact us to let us know if there are some workshops you can not attend.
