Beyond Jazz Weekender
Description
This year’s Beyond Jazz Weekender features two main courses: The Jazz Doof and The Jazz Social.
Kicking off on Friday 14th August, The Jazz Doof brings Sydney’s underground jazz-warehouse energy to Bellingen, blending sweat-soaked dancefloors, chest-rattling bass and rule-breaking contemporary jazz. Led by the scene’s standout acts Haztet, Lux Trevis and Flux State, the night fuses spiritual jazz, psychedelic groove and hybrid electronic beats into a high-energy party where improvisation meets club culture.
The experience continues on Saturday 15th August with The Jazz Social, a “degustation” journey across global jazz styles, from New Orleans brass and Ethio-jazz to ambient, electronic and funk-infused improvisation. Featuring William Street, Jeremy Rose’s Infinity feat. Alexander Flood, Black Jesus Experience and a grand finale with Mastersonics vs Dance Makers Collective, the program is punctuated by vinyl selections from DJ Peret von Sturmer and cabaret dance interludes from SULT Movement.
Enjoy tap beers poured by the glass, courtesy of Bellingen Brewery, cocktails, wines and non-alcoholic thirst quenchers from the bar, plus a delicious Asian street food menu from our kitchen, whisked up by The Thirsty Dumpling.
Together, the event celebrates adventurous musicianship, communal dancing and jazz as a living, evolving, joyfully physical artform.
