Description

We often tell children to “be resilient” and push through challenges.

But many children quietly interpret struggle as a sign that something is wrong with them.

In this event we explore why resilience alone isn’t enough if children haven’t learned how to interpret struggle in healthy ways.

You’ll learn:

  • Why capable children often feel ashamed when things feel hard.

  • How struggle can trigger identity narratives like “I’m not good enough”.

  • The difference between coping and meaning-making.

  • How parents can help children understand that struggle is something they experience, not who they are.

Because strong children aren’t the ones who never struggle. They’re the ones who know struggle doesn’t define them.

FAQs

  • Who is this event for?

These sessions are designed for parents and carers of primary school aged children, as well as educators and anyone interested in understanding how children develop resilience, identity, and their inner voice during the primary school years.

  • Do I need to attend the whole Inner Voice Series to benefit from this event?

No. Each event in the series stands alone and can be attended independently. However, together they build a deeper understanding of how children’s inner voice develops and how adults can support it.

  • Are the sessions practical or mostly theory?

Each session blends research insights with practical strategies you can use straight away. The goal is to help adults better understand what is happening beneath children’s behaviour and to offer tools that support healthy emotional development.

  • What age group do these sessions focus on?

Most sessions focus on children aged 7-12 years during their primary school time, when beliefs about identity, capability, and resilience are still forming. However, many of the insights are relevant for supporting children of different ages.

  • Do I need any prior knowledge before attending?

No prior knowledge is required. The sessions are designed to be accessible and engaging whether you are new to these ideas or already interested in child development and wellbeing.
