Event description

None of us are immune to unpredictable and unwanted change, challenge, threat or crisis but we can all learn to manage them better – physically, mentally and emotionally.

In this workshop, F2F + virtual, you will develop Resilience and then go further to develop Human Durability.

Resilience is our ability to endure and bounce back from change, challenge, threat or crisis. It’s an invaluable skill. Human Durability takes you to the next level. It is the ability and process for anticipating and managing potential challenges before they become an unpredictable crisis and sustaining optimal performance throughout.

This workshop develops both high-performance people and high-performance mental health.

Doctors have described Human Durability as Preventative Medicine for The Mind.

Derrick McManus was and is a peak performer and a survivor of an exceptional lived experience:

  • SA Police Sniper, Tactical Diver and Counter-Terrorist Operative
  • Shot 14 times with a high-powered rifle
  • Lying on the ground for 3-hours before rescue
  • 2-years of physical rehab - returned to full duties
  • Zero anxiety, stress or PTSD
  • Research collaboration with University of South Australia

Derrick defied all odds and created success where others would have folded. He had prepared himself for sustained optimal performance in ‘his world’. He will prepare you for sustained optimal performance in ‘your world’.

Derrick’s lived experience shows that we can excel under pressure if we have the right physical, mental and emotional preparation and understand the Human Durability processes.

Derrick speaks to everyone from students through to The CEO Institute and everyone in between.

Everything in this workshop is practical, field-tested, immediately implementable, and completely relevant to your life, your business, your sport or your aspirations.

What clients are saying:

Derrick’s story is truly amazing, almost superhuman. I took a lot from his talk that I look forward to implementing in both my work and personal life. The Human Durability model is a great way to quantify and articulate what we know we should be doing.

Lex Hanegraaf,
HSEQ ManagerBuilt Environs

His story is truly engaging, and the basis on which his model of Human Durability is built. By discussing his recovery from his challenges, he reduces the stigma of mental illness and provides practical and proactive strategies and tools for managing our own challenges.

Dr. Ellie Lawrence-Wood,
Psychologist

Derrick’s workshop about his experience was riveting. In a room full of people I know to be social and restless I was astounded at the rapt attention being paid. I loved the barrier breaking on “assumptions” we make which we allow to guide us in decision making and choices, and how we can change to be more creative and successful. Derrick’s presentation made me consider what the biggest threat is to our department, and those we serve, and what I need to do to ensure my staff is trained and prepared to handle it when it happens.

Carolyn Knudtson,
Recreation and Human Services DirectorSan Leandro, California

The Financial Planners were raving about you all afternoon and could relate to how you had to make a choice to ‘sink or swim’ with the major changes you faced in life. The day itself was a great success and one of the main contributing factors to its success was your final talk on the day.
