Description

The Challenge of Translation.
In the world of medical research, the path from a breakthrough discovery to a clinical reality is rarely a straight line. While a patent is a significant milestone, it is only one piece of the puzzle. To truly drive impact, researchers and entrepreneurs must understand how intellectual property (IP) determines market access, partnership opportunities, and the long-term viability of their innovations.

What You Will Learn: This masterclass, hosted at the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), is designed to give clinicians, researchers, and founders the "due diligence" toolkit needed to work effectively with tech transfer offices and commercial partners.

By attending this session, you will be able to:

  • Understand the IP Spectrum: Identify different types of Intellectual Property and their specific relevance to clinical innovation.

  • Navigate the Patent Lifecycle: Describe the stages of the patent process from application to grant, including critical timelines and filing strategies.

  • Clarify Ownership: Distinguish between inventorship and ownership, and understand how these impact your legal rights and obligations.

  • Assess Patentability: Learn to evaluate research discoveries based on novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability.

  • Secure Freedom to Operate (FTO): Understand how FTO influences your ability to commercialise a product without infringing on existing rights.

  • Build Your Network: Identify the key stakeholders to engage with, including IP lawyers and research offices.

Don't miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights from industry experts and network with fellow health tech innovators.
