Bhangra Dancing for Everyone with Joshinder
Event description
Bhangra is a folk dance from Punjab, India, known as the dance of the harvest and celebration, and Joshinder wants to share culture and introduce you to its unique joy and flavour! It is a joyous expression of the body, with simple moves like bouncing and tapping, that instantly elevates one's soul.
Come along for a fun session to learn the basics of Bhangra and have a great time. This is a total beginners class, suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
What will we cover?
In this class we will:
Warm-up with a simple Bhangra dance to get familiar with the basic moves.
Learn basic body movements and positions of Bhangra dancing
Turn our basic moves into a fun choreographed dance.
Tap into the pleasure of moving for our own enjoyment
What will you need?
Comfortable clothing to move in (jeans not recommended)

Who will be Teaching?
Joshinder Chaggar (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, actor, teacher, writer and film-maker, and the recipient of the Melbourne Fringe award for Best Dance & Physical Theatre 2024.
Her name literally means the Goddess of Enthusiasm, and this is what she aims to create in the class - an atmosphere of joy! She has recently finished a PhD, where her research intersects her intercultural identity and the desire to build connection and community.
