QWMN Big Ideas: Developing a new style of catchment modelling for SEQ
Event description
The Queensland Water Modelling Network annually commissions a series of Research Development and Innovation projects on key industry based challenges.
This webinar aims to share highlights from one of the projects: New catchment models for SEQ. Tony Weber will lead the discussion around some of the Big Ideas that surfaced while undertaking this project. The project is a collaborative partnership between Alluvium, BMT, Griffith University and Brisbane City Council, and builds on years of catchment understanding from Healthy Land and Water and their partners.
Building on the models of the late 1990s that used a lumped-conceptual style of modeling, the project looked at alternative approaches that use a gridded technique. This approach allows individual characteristics of the landscape to be represented on a cell by cell basis (rather than lumped), capturing more of the catchment complexity and therefore simulating more spatial variability in key processes.
Come online for this webinar to:
- hear what the project team did and what was novel
- ask your questions on what makes this an improved modeling approach
- hear from users and beneficiary of this tool on how they plan to use it
As this is the first in a series of three webinars on the RDI projects from the 22/23 round, we hope to better appreciate what the Big Ideas are that are arising through these collaborative projects. And, on Thursday 30 November join us where we will bring all the projects together for a face-to-face workshop at The Ship Inn, Southbank.
