QWMN Big Ideas: Linking ungauged catchments with water quality profiles
Event description
The Queensland Water Modelling Network annually commissions a series of Research Development and Innovation projects on key industry based challenges. This webinar aims to share highlights from a project looking at customisation of a water quality model in an ungauged catchment.
Leading the discussion is Cherie O'Sullivan who will dive into some of the Big Ideas that surfaced while undertaking this project. The project is a collaborative partnership between the University of Southern Queensland, Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee and the Department of Environment and Science and builds from the PhD research that Cherie undertook with us an Innovation Associate. In catchments with no site specific gauging stations to characterise water quality runoff, this project is trialling how using features from land-use and original vegetation cover data as a proxy for water quality run off, can work. Along the way validating existing water quality data with that collected by a local NRM group was undertaken, plus community based workshop were held to explore how to best address the uncertainty of model tools in ungauged catchments
Come on-line for this webinar to:
- hear what the project team did and what was novel
- ask your questions on what makes this an improved modeling approach
- hear from users and beneficiary of this tool on how they plan to use this tool
As this is the second in a series of three webinars on the RDI projects from the 22/23 round, we hope to better appreciate what the Big Ideas are that are arising through these collaborative projects. And, on Thursday 30 November join us where we will bring all the projects together for a face-to-face workshop at The Ship Inn, Southbank.
