Lifting the Spirits: Stories of Hope and Inspiration

2023 was a trying year for those of us concerned about the state of the world. The outbreak of war in Gaza, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and the lack of international action on climate change have all been dispiriting.

But amidst the doom and gloom, there is still much to be hopeful about. In the next of our ‘Big Ideas in the Pub’ series, we will be joined by prolific Australian poet, playwright, essayist and reviewer, and human rights adviser, Angela Costi, who will share her insights on how collaborating and connecting with inspiring people and communities has given her the strength to continue along her own journey.

Our second speaker is Ahmad Nisar, a member of Amnesty International’s Youth Advisory Group. Ahmad helped to found Changemaker, a youth-led initiative focused on mental health and its interconnection with other sustainable development goals. Ahmad is an award-winning advocate, author, advisor, speaker and consultant. He will tell us about his personal journey, his passion, and self-care.
