Event description

Discover the art of bicycle maintenance in an engaging way. Each month, our skilled bike mechanics will cover a different topic where  you will learn all the basic skills to maintain and look after your bike. Each session is independent of the others and you do not have to have attended any of the other sessions. The sessions are intended for people with no/limited knowledge and all tools and materials will be provided.

  • Nov 11: Tyre and Tubes (Part A)
  • Dec 9: Tyre and Tubes (Part B)
  • Mar 9: Chain and Drivetrain - Starting at 10:30 and 11:30am due to official launch at 10:00am

  • Jun 8 : Tyre and Tubes (Part A)



While most of the session will be a demonstration, feel free to bring your bike along to ask specific questions about your bike. Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your bicycle knowledge!

Each Saturday there will be two sessions of 1 hour on the same topic with limited space in each session.

Tyre and Tubes (Part A)

In this session you will:

  • Learn about the key components of your wheelset;
  • Understand tyre sizing, different tube valve types and how to correctly inflate your tyre
  • Learn about common causes of wear and punctures / flats
  • Build practical skills removing and reinstalling a tyre and tube


Tyre and Tubes (Part B)

In this session you will:

  • Learn how to remove your rear wheel (with quick release)
  • Learn about common causes of punctures / flats and learn how to identify the cause and fix
  • Build practical skills finding and repairing / patching a puncture


Chain and Drivetrain

In this session you will:

  • Understand the components of your drivetrain and common causes and symptoms of wear
  • Understand different tools and equipment commonly used to clean drivetrains
  • Build practical skills cleaning and maintaining the health of your drivetrain


Brakes

In this session you will:

  • Understand the components of a braking system and common causes and symptoms of wear
  • Understand what good braking setup looks like
  • Build practical skills installing a brake pad, setting brake lever tension and aligning brake calipers


Gears

In this session you will:

  • Understand the components of a shifting system
  • Understand how a rear derailleur works and the purpose of limit screws and cable tension
  • Build practical skills tuning a rear derailleur

The Saturday Circle

This event is part of the Saturday Circle a monthly repair, share, regen, reuse and resilience building get-together at the Randwick Sustainability Hub, 27 Munda St Randwick.
