Bike Skills refresh for over 55s - moving onto the road - Stonnington
Description
Join this practical bike riding skills session for adults who can already ride but would like to feel more confident riding on the road.
Perhaps you've recently done our Bike Skills Refresh session, or you're happy riding on shared paths but not as confident riding on the road? Or maybe its been a while and you just want to refresh your skills and awareness?
We'll practice the skills needed to safely ride on roads in a traffic free environment for the first part of the day, including;
-head checks,
-signalling,
-merging
as well as learn the theory and practice strategies for managing scenarios like
-roundabouts,
-right turns in traffic,
-being visible on the road
-and communication with drivers.
With a break for lunch (BYO picnic lunch) in the middle of the day you'll have plenty of time to digest everything you've learned, and make some new friends.
After lunch we will ride on local roads with plenty of time to put the skills and strategies we've learnt into practice with the support of instructors.
You may choose to enrol for only the first part of the day.
This course is commissioned by City of Stonnington and delivered by the professionals from Bike it Better.

Who is this session suitable for?
Adults who can safely ride on shared paths or who have completed the Bike Skills Refresh on 7th October.
Suitable for all types of human-powered bicycles, including folding bikes and electric bikes that are legal to use in Victoria. (We cannot accomodate converted electric bikes, e-bikes that don't comply with regulations nor electric motorcycles)

9:30-11:30 - Skills practice
1130-12:00pm BYO picnic snacks or lunch
12:00-2:00pm On road ride (optional)

- How many participants will be in the group?
The group size is limited to 12 participants. for the part of the day practising skills in a traffic-free environement.
8 participants will be able to do the on-road ride.

- What should I bring?
Make sure you bring;
A bicycle of suitable size and type, in good condition with working brakes, a bell and pumped up tyres. If you are unsure, please email bikeitbettercyclecoaching@gmail.com prior to booking.
An approved helmet in good condition
Runners or similar closed-toe footwear
Sun/weather protection
BYO lunch and water
Any medication
Suitable clothing for the conditions
- What if the weather isn’t great?
The training will only be cancelled if the weather forecast predicts very wet, very windy or very hot weather. In this event, we will contact you 2 hours prior to the start time. If weather conditions deteriorate after training has begun, training activities may be modified or omitted or the session terminated to minimise health and safety risks.
