This class covers essential skills and knowledge for novice bike tourists, offering a gentle introduction to the world of DIY bike touring. Use the gear you already own, and learn from our instructors with over 15 years of experience.
What You Will Learn:
- Bicycle Basics: An introduction to different types of bikes, essential bike parts, and basic maintenance tips to ensure a smooth ride.
- Safety and Gear: Essential safety tips, including proper helmet use, reflective gear, and navigating traffic safely. Participants will also learn about essential touring gear and how to pack effectively for a bike tour.
- Route Planning: How to plan a bike tour, including route selection, understanding terrain, and estimating travel times. Tips on using maps and bike-friendly apps will be provided.
- Riding Techniques: Basic riding techniques for efficient and comfortable biking, including proper posture, pedaling, and braking.
- Group Riding Etiquette: Understanding group riding dynamics, hand signals, and communication for a safe and enjoyable group ride experience.

- Beginners who are new to bike touring.
- Recreational cyclists looking for a relaxed and enjoyable ride.

Criteria:
- Terrain: The routes will primarily feature mostly flat terrain or gentle slopes, ensuring a manageable and enjoyable ride for all fitness levels.
- Distance: Our ride will range between 5-10 miles, allowing participants to build confidence and stamina at a comfortable pace.
- Path Quality: Routes will be selected based on their paved roads or well-maintained bike paths, offering a smooth and safe riding experience.
- Physical Exertion: Minimal physical exertion is required, making this class accessible to participants of all ages and fitness levels.
Recommended Packing List:
Clothing:
- Comfortable cycling shorts or pants, for sun protection!
- Moisture-wicking shirts or jerseys
- Lightweight jacket or windbreaker
- Cycling gloves
- Cycling socks
- Casual clothing for evenings
