Bio-threats & Barriers
Event description
Biosecurity is everyone's responsibility. It is the foundation of seed collection, propagation and regeneration. All of these things must be done in a sterile environment to avoid the movement of pathogens. Myrtle Rust, phytpothera and chytrid fungus incursions are on the rise. People moving about properties collecting seed & conducting restoration activities are a risk of spreading these things as well as weed seeds throughout the landscape. In addition, most biosecurity incursions are noticed by members of the public. So those out with eyes on the ground have an opportunity to identify and report emerging threats – if they know what they are looking for. This workshop focuses on the Identification, prevention, reporting and control of emerging plant, vertebrate and pathogen threats on the Plateau as well as a hands on tool & boot cleaning lesson.
