Biochar - Making it and Using it
Event description
Biochar - Making it and Using it in the Garden
Sunday 29th June 1-4pm - @ Northbank Community Gardens - Bellingen
Presented by Linda Woodrow, author of the best-selling "The Permaculture Home Garden", and Peter Lewis, President of Coffs Community Gardens and educator at Barcoo Community Gardens.
Explore the benefits of using bio char in the garden. Making biochar is not complicated, and the soil microbiology will love you for it.
We’ll look at the difference between bio char and wood ash and explain why bio char is one of the best soil additives you can use, both for your own garden and for the environment. We'll explore what kinds of wood or bamboo to use, how to do it safely, and how to activate it, with practical demonstrations of the various stages in the process, and a "here's one we made earlier" final product to show you how it turns out after it has cooled down from the firing process.
This is not a highly technical workshop but offers a hands on low tech method that gives a good return for effort and great results.
Brought to you through Our Living Coast and Bellingen Shire Council, Bellingen Shire Learning Alliance and Northbank Community Gardens
