Biodiversity in Port Phillip

An information sharing event for people to learn what biodiversity is, why it is important, and how you can get involved in improving it in Port Phillip. This event has been jointly organized by the Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network (PECAN) and the Port Phillip EcoCentre.

Ali Orchard, ecologist, teacher and EcoCentre Citizen Science Manager, will illustrate the basic concepts underpinning biodiversity, why it is so important for our world, especially in an urban context like Port Phillip.

Lyn Alison, President, Westgate Biodiversity: Bili Nursery & Landcare, will explain how their community has the community has developed Westgate Park to become a rich biodiverse area and their vision for its future evolution.

Emma Cutting is Founder of Heartscapes and designer and project lead of the innovative Melbourne Pollinator Corridor. She will share a little on the MPC’s design and the gorgeous native pollinating insects that it is designed for and will also share some tips on what you can do to help your local critters in and around your nature strip.

The City of Port Phillip and some other Port Phillip community organizations will also briefly summarize their activities and priorities for improving local biodiversity. They will then be on hand to answer questions and talk with people wanting to get involved in their important local work.

Doors will open at 1:45pm, and tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.
