A gathering for Tuakau locals and anyone interested in learning more about biodynamic gardening
A couple of times a year I treat each of the gardens I tend with a biodynamic 'horn manure' preparation. It's made from cow manure that has been buried for the winter months, till it resembles very fine compost.

A small amount of this material gets stirred for 60 minutes, and then spread out over the gardens, to feed the microorganisms and wake them up with the warmer weather arriving. (It's also used in autumn to give them a last feed before their winter rest)

We'll start at 2pm, stir till 3pm, and then spread the material around the museum garden, after which you are welcome to take some of the mixture home to your own garden.

I quite like chatting as I stir, it's a nice chance to talk about our garden plans for the spring and summer.

What to bring:

- If you have a favourite bucket, please bring that with you.

- Bring a container to take some of the mixture home with you. When I first started biodynamic gardening, I would take an empty 2 litre milk bottle, which then became a couple of milk bottles, until I was stirring a full 10 litres on my own at home.

- Please wear covered shoes if you want to see the pollinator garden as there is some broken glass in amongst the soil.

- Sunhat, water bottle, and please remember to put on some sunscreen in the morning.

- We probably won't go ahead if there's heavy rain - I'll send an email and text on the morning if we need to postpone.
